Yong Wei, Shawn and I went to watch "Zathura" at Plaza Sing on Tuesday afternoon because Chicken Little did not open until today. We wish that Mr Goh could have joined us, except that he was unfortunately busy in Pulau Tekong.Chicken Little, btw, is v v v very good! I saw it this afternoon. Remember to stay to watch the credits after the movie ends :)

Nooooooel noel!!!
Why don't we organize a choir outing to go watch the movie NOEL since all of you sang "The First Noel/Canon in D" so well? However, if you all start singing the song during the movie I will pretend that I don't know all of you.Now... has everyone gotten the parent letter with the December practices signed? You need to return them directly to Mr Goh at the practice as I'll be overseas from 1-12Dec. Mrs Chan and Ms. Leow will be 'jaga'ing all of you so you better behave! We expect everyone to be around for at least 3 of the 4 practices unless you have a super good reason. We also want to know in advance so that we can either shift/cancel the practices if only like 2 people can turn up.
Shawn, want to be in charge of organizing the movie-outing? If its an afternoon before this thursday, I can join you all... Mr Goh however, will be in the jungle being a man so we can take a photo of ourselves and MMS it to him *evil grin*
Stessen... where's the logo??? We wait long long oreedi!
And now that everyone's had a taste of how fun carolling can be (sing a bit, have fun then EAT!) lets aim for big-scale carolling next year in shopping centers, orchard road and all kinds of fun places that yongwei and shawn can have the 2nd round of their chicken wing eating competition.

A new name for us...
I've discussed with Mrs Chan and Ms Leow, and we are going to go ahead with renaming our choir "The Voices In The Garden"... the french one's a bit too diva considering that we don't even SING in French! "The Voices In The Garden" is stylish, but not too pretentious, so we are cool with it. Yay! Now, would anyone like to design us a pretty choir logo? I know we have a few arty people in this group who will do a splendid job with that...
Just to let you all know that I will be doing up the choir website that will run off the school's intranet, and I'll be taking some photos and videoclips tomorrow to make it stylo and multimedia with streaming video and sound... if our name sounds so good, our website must look good too... so we can get all the good looking and good sounding new Secondary One students during orientation.

December 2006 Rehearsals
Dear choir members, please take note of the following dates for December 2006 practices. I will be issuing letters to your parents (that must be signed and returned) at Saturday's practice. We are preparing for many exciting performances in Jan/Feb 2006 and so it is important that these practices are attended. Remember, choir is a team effort - we are as good as our weakest member.
Tues 6 Dec 8am - 12 nn
Fri 9 Dec 8am - 12 nn
Tues 27 Dec 8am - 12 nn
Fri 30 Dec 8am - 12 nn
This is also an announcement in regards to Saturday: After the performance at the country club we will proceed to Chomp chomp for a post-performance celebration. School will 'chiah' you one glass of fresh sugarcane juice, but whatever you eat, you need to pay on your own. Bring $ (maybe about $6-7 will be enough, or more if you want to eat more) and a change of clothes if you don't fancy sitting in your choir costume in hot and stinky chomp chomp.
And those who don't want/cannot go... nevermind, its OK! :)

And special thanks to the voices in the garden singers who helped pack ribbons with brochures this morning. Much appreciated.
Everyone better come for the last practice which is THIS SATURDAY at 9am. Showtime is Saturday 8pm, and everyone is to reach the country club by 7pm. Note the time. Turn up in your choir costume. You may want to bring a change of clothes (and money for dinner/supper) to invade chomp chomp to celebrate our FIRST PERFORMANCE outside school!

Renaming Ourselves!?
Let's jazz up our choir's identity... we're going to have lots of exciting performances, exchange programmes, outings, etc in 2006, but first, we want to look cool! So... what do you think of renaming the "SGS Choir" to "Voices in the Garden"? Super stylo huh?
Some other ideas...
"The Garden Singers"
"The Gardeners"
"Le Garden Chorale" (suggested by Monsieur Goh - stylo 'flench' name leh!)
Imagine hearing an announcement at the morning assembly, "There will be a rehearsal for the Voices In The Garden this afternoon in the music room"!
We'll want to design a whole new look for the choir too - starting with a logo to go on all our choir scores for one thing... everyone's welcome to come up with ideas!

Reality TV
Singapore Idol's coming back next year in February...
And while everyone seems to be all excited about a certain upcoming *superstar* competition that happens to have an audition at the same time as choir practice... no, no one has my permission to go missing because of this. This goes for all other reasons and excuses I've been hearing about - schedule was released as a letter to your parents - you want to get excused, I want a letter from your parents stating the reason. There's a performance coming up in exactly 1 week and the choir is hardly up to the standard it ought to be.
Remember that a choir is as strong as its weakest member... so don't think that your not coming doesn't make a difference - it does. Not coming wastes everyone's time. We call for the practices because we need them - we all have other things we'd prefer to be doing now that its the holidays, but remember that choir and all kinds of performance require discipline.
Trust someone who has been singing with choirs for more than 14 years - that's YOUR AGE for many of you, so take heed! You don't just answer to me or Mr Goh, but to the reputation of the school. Please get your priorities right.

Fellowship of the Ring
We got chased out of the music room because of the O levels, then we got chased out of the classroom in block F because of exams in block E... then we went to the hall and soaked in its massive space... and got chased out of there too, to the stuffy and cramped backstage area of the hall with the 'lau ya' piano...
So I have no idea where we CAN have choir practice next... and it looks like we all need to be nomadic for a while as we need to give priority to exams and to people who actually book the rooms we want to use. I guess we all just need to play by ear.

Warm-up Exercise
This blog is supposed to be informative for choir members - so everyone please take note of the new warm-up routine that 'Mr Goh' wants everyone to do 10 minutes before the start of choir practice before he arrives. You may choose your own preference of partner, and remember that you need to use a wide open space. Remember that warm-ups are important!

We invaded Mr Goh's house for a choir party this evening! Mr Goh is still cleaning up the awful mess left by the partying monsters in their wake...
