Expectations of Choir Members

This post is for the benefit of both old and new choir members, to set the tone for the rest of 2006 as we move to new levels as the Voices in the Garden.
  1. All choir members are to turn up punctually. Practices on Wednesdays are from 3.00pm to 6.00pm, and practices on Fridays are from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Please note that people who need to arrive later / leave earlier are to inform Nadiah BEFORE the day of the practice. Please note also that personal commitments (eg: family wants you home earlier for something) must be accompanied by a letter from the parent.
  2. You are to have your own set of scores for all practices. Sharing will not be entertained. You are also to have your scores organized, and be able to find them when they are to be used for a practice. You are also expected to make your own notes on your scores.
  3. All choir members are involved in singing for the morning assembly on Wednesday mornings. You are to arrive at 6.50am at E02-01 for a very necessary warm-up.
  4. All choir members are responsible for maintaining a pleasant environment during the practice.
  5. Every choir member is just as important, and no choir member should feel that he/she is better than the others.
  6. Choral singing is a group effort, and everyone has something to learn from each practice. Attention-seeking behaviour disrupts the practice and wastes the time of the choral director.
  7. All choir members are responsible for maintaining discipline so that all are able to concentrate and benefit from the practice. People who talk or fidget should not be responded to so that they are not encouraged to continue.
The consequences....
  1. Students who do not turn up with the scores required for the practice will be asked to return home to retrieve them.
  2. Students who are disruptive will be removed from the music room until that person is ready to return and to be a contributing part of the choir.
  3. Students who are repeatedly absent or late will be put on probation and will be requested to leave if it becomes a common problem.
Remember that the choir is as strong as its weakest member. Effort, on your part, is always appreciated by your choral director and teachers-in-charge and we will enforce these rules so that the choir can grow.

Remember that we can do great things, but that it is only possible when each and every choir member makes a personal effort to be the best that he/she can be.
