This is just to repeat what I briefed you all on this afternoon at the Speech Day Rehearsal.
We are going to do something fun to jazz up our choir's appearance at the Speech Day performance on the 7th April... we're going to tie-dye! :) Its tremendous fun, and it'll make us look fresh, lively and artistic. Tie-dye stuff looks like the t-shirt in the picture above, and I've got a few skirts with tie-dye prints (I have an orange and green skirt which Mr Goh calls my carrot outfit)... yeah, stuff like that. We're gonna look very bohemian and hip.
Alright... please take note of the details:
Date: 30/3/06 (Thursday) Time: 2.30pm - 4pm Venue: Art Room II (D02-03)
You need to bring... Rocks, marbles, rubber-bands, string... lotsa string and rubber-bands
Warning: You should also bring your apron or an old t-shirt... tie-dye paint DOES NOT WASH OFF... you have been forewarned!
You may also want to bring along other stuff to tie-dye besides your designated sarong cloth and/or t-shirt/shirt for the guys... and guys, please ASK YOUR PARENTS before you bring that shirt or t-shirt in case they don't want you to color it.
We'll be using the colors GREEN, BLUE and PURPLE... we're going to look like the ocean! Mdm Ng, Ms Leow and I will also tie-dye matching items, and Mr Goh is welcome to pass us a white t-shirt on Wednesday if he wants to be bohemian on Speech Day to match as well.
It is important that ALL the tie-dying gets done at the same time for everyone, so those who are not able to come down on Thursday are to pass their items to someone else who can. Section leaders are in charge of making sure that everyone knows what to do.
~|~
Now... for Wednesday...
You will be left to your own devices because Mdm Ng & I are not free to supervise you. Ms Leow will be in charge of you that day, but will probably be helping with the running of the Speech Day rehearsal in the Hall. Please note that I don't want the choir to participate in that Speech Day rehearsal as we've already done our technical rehearsal on Monday.
Section leaders are to see that sectionals are carried out and that by the time Mr Goh arrives, the choir will be able to sing what you are supposed to know how to sing.
~|~
I also want to announce the appointment of Shawn Neo & Stessen Chia as our choir's designated Technical Managers. They are the ONLY people allowed to handle the choir's sound equipment in school and public performances and have been trained by me.
And Franceline finally got to pinch Jeryl's cheeks because we got bored while waiting our turn at the Speech Day rehearsal!

Speech Day Rehearsals
Dearest Choir,
Please take note of Speech Day rehearsals at the following times:
27/3 3.30pm - 5.30pm Choir to report at 3.00pm - Nadiah & Selly i/c warm-ups We will be doing a sound check. I will want to run the school song as we will be singing the following for Speech Day: (1) Benedictus (2) El Grillo (3) All Things Bright & Beautiful (4) The School Song. Please be prepared and WARM as I need an accurate sound from the choir for the mike check.
29/3 3.00pm - 5.00pm 2nd (and hopefully final) rehearsal for Speech Day Am going to request that the choir not sing for this rehearsal - it will be a rehearsal of entries and exits as well as technical set-ups. Mr Goh, Mdm Ng and myself will not be around so Nadiah and Selly are i/c. The sound equipment is at my table and the choir's keyboard is in the staffroom workroom. The boys are expected to assist. Shawn and Benjamin are the choir boys responsible for our sound equipment. On Monday, I will brief you on the set-up requirements and it will be your job to see to it on Wednesday. I only want the choir to run the school song for the Wednesday rehearsal.
Speech Day itself...
9.00am - 12.00pm in THE HALL
Choir to meet in school at 7.00am for warm-ups in the Multi-purpose Room C04-03. Choir members involved in other things (prize presentation etc) are to inform me by Monday so that I am aware of choir members movements.
I would also like to have a meeting with the choir on Monday regarding our dresscode for the Speech Day performance - would like to try something different.
Please update each other - especially the people with no net access and who will not have the chance to see this blog before Monday. Section leaders are expected to have the contacts of their section members and to update them, even if its just an SMS.

RED ALERT!
Hi Voices in The Garden,
Just so you know, on Wed, 22nd Mar (that's today) all conductors have to be present for the SYF balloting at CCAB and on Friday, it's parent-teacher meeting day so no school and the school don't want kids around. So we can't have practice for this whole week. And in case you haven't noticed, we are just one and 1/2 weeks away from our Speech Day performance (7th April), in which we are required to sing songs of different languages. That leaves us with 3 more sessions to prepare 26th (Wed), 28th (Fri) and 5th (Wed).
I'm proposing we do "Laudamus Te", "El Grillo" and maybe "All Things Bright And Beautiful".
Of the 3, you haven't learnt "El Grillo". Can we learn that in one session and get it memorized on the following session? It's largely repetitive, the only parts of the song that needs more work is actually Section D-E. The structure of the Song is like that -
A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H
C is the same as A F-G-H is the same as A-B-C only D-E is different
Those of you who went for the exchange would have learnt A-B-C that would mean you have learnt 2/3 of the song. The only big concern is the words. Can the student leaders please take note: I need you to organise your own sectionals within this week and learn A-B-C properly and get the words right. When I next see you on 26th Mar, I want A-B-C of El Grillo to be in good shape! I'm counting on you people, who are old enough and responsible enough to take care of things.
I'm putting these people in charge of taking care of the section and making sure they know what's going on: S1 - Jaimme and Samaria S2 - Nadiah and Dharshini A - Huimin and Alphonso B - Stessen and Benjamin These people were present at the exchange with Orchid Park, so they have learnt it and sung it, they would help those who didn't go for the exchange to learn so please help them by cooperating with them, thus making their job easier.
Scores for "El Grillo" has already been sent for printing before the March Holidays, it should be ready, please get them from Ms Koh. Thanks.
That's all folks, enjoy the rest of the week and see you on next Wed.
-Benedict

Kite Flying & Bowling
We met at 8am in the morning to fly kites and then relocated to the grassroots club for a choir bowling tournament, all in the name of good holiday fun.
"Tsk!"
Bowling expert Number 1
Bowling Expert Number 2
Everyone else better start practising for our next bowling tournament...
The thunderball!
Shawn brought a change of underwear
And then we moved on to the pool tables to poke at small balls with a long stick after we got tired of flinging heavy balls down an alley.

For Wednesday
This is just to clarify what's going on on Wednesday...
We're having an informal social gathering. Its a nice time to see each other outside of choir practices, and to bond as a group. Its not a compulsory excursion with consent form etc, but I hope that all choir members free during this time will make time for this fun day.
The Plan 8.00am : Kite Flying (Meet at Sengkang MRT Station) 9.30am : Breakfast (probably at coffeeshop in sengkang) 10.15am : Take bus 86 to Yio Chu Kang Grassroots Club for Bowling 11.00am : Bowling tournament (3 lanes - 3 teams of 6) 12.30pm : Lunch & bye bye!
What to bring: 1. About $12.00-15.00 (to see you through til lunch) 2. Your own socks (you will need to rent bowling shoes)
Dresscode: As you please - no school uniforms or choir costumes please! Girls may want to not wear skirts that are too short as one has to 'bend over' in order to bowl.
You may want to trim your fingernails as long nails can break when handling bowling balls. Please also keep your parents informed and let them know of your whereabouts. Mr Goh, Mdm Ng and I will be there, but we expect you to be independent and responsible for yourselves as you're all old enough. You're also welcome to bring your own digital cameras etc to capture the fun.

All things bright and beautiful
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all
Each little flower that opens
Each little bird that sings
He made their glowing colors
He made their tiny wings
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all!
Thank you one and all, for a great Choir Exchange! Have a great March holiday and see you all on Wednesday for THE CHOIR BOWLING EXPEDITION! Watch this space for details!

Choir Exchange Programme
Just so that the new folks can get an idea of what a choir exchange is, click here to read about last year's exchange with Bishan Park Sec's choir. Its essentially the same thing, except that the choir we are meeting is far bigger and more experienced than ours, and we are going to them instead of being the host.
We can look forward to many more choir exchanges, as its a good way to build exposure in performing and in getting to know other people your age who do the same thing.
We now have less than a week to get up to speed, so voice groups are expected to get organized for sectionals on their own and to arrive at the Wednesday's practice knowing the 3 pieces that we will be sharing at the exchange. Remember, every choir member matters!
